A listening strategy to help you develop your listening exam skills.

The lecture for each week of E7 is on RESO07. You will find them in ‘Course Documents’ under ‘Listening Resources’.

You will also be provided with the transcript of the lecture each week.

You can use the following strategies:

1. Read the transcript, several times if you need to, so that you understand the content and structure of the lecture.
2. Listen to the lecture while reading the transcript to listen for individual words.
3. You can also listen to ‘phrasing’ which means listen to how individual words are joined together in meaningful groups.
4. Use the transcript to identify key words that you think you are likely to hear again in lectures ie general academic words: develop your own ‘note-taking’ forms of these words.
5. Use the transcript to identify key phrases that occur all the time e.g. ‘leads to’, and develop your own ‘note-taking’ forms of these.
6. Listen to the lecture without any help and practise note-taking.
